The annual Xerjoff Royal Charity Polo Cup was held on Saturday 14th July 2018 at the private grounds of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Berkshire Estate, Watership Down. Along with the many other sponsors, Bubble was proud to be apart of a great cause supporting Well Child & Mapaction. The guests enjoyed a glamorous day of polo with HRH The Duke of Sussex, with food and drinks provided by Bubble.
Upon arrival guests were welcomed with cocktails by Mr Foggs and canapes ranging from our cheddar & white truffle toastie to our sophisticated pine nut sable with whipped goats cheese and candy striped beetroot. The 3 course menu designed by our Head Chef Jens Nisson was created to reflect the scents of the Xerjoff luxury Italian perfume. Our first course featured red shrimp, almond, green grape & rose, the sweetness of the shrimp paired with the delicate top notes of Alexandria – green apple and cinnamon oil. The almond at the heart of the dish was a perfect foil for the richer scent of Bulgarian rose. The main course a roast lamb cannon with cedar-smoked shoulder, apricot, curd, broad bean & mint expressed the woody character of Alexandria which is echoed throughout, from apricot kernel to cedarwood shaving and a hint of woodsmoke. Finally, the strawberry and lavender dessert to finish, with the lavender bringing in a little mystery and complexity to the essential English Summer dessert. Lunch concluded with coffee and hand made petit fours.
After lunch was served, the lively auction began followed by a game of polo with HRH Prince Harry. Victory went to Aston Martin becoming the first winners of the Royal Charity Polo Cup beating Prince Harry’s Innerplace team 4-2. Meanwhile Harald Link was named The Most Valuable Player of the match and Frida played by HRH The Duke of Sussex was selected as the Best Playing Pony, with the prize presented by Steven Cox.
Followed by this guests returned for an afternoon tea, featuring a range of luxury sandwiches and carefully crafted fanciers such as raspberry pavlova, a pistachio and orange blossom macaroon and a garam masala cake with rose cream.
Prince Harry is known for his passion for philanthropy and we’re proud to have been able to support two great charities very dear to his heart. It was a joyous occasion with an entertaining match and spectacular food.
