With the recent launch of Bubble Weddings our Senior Wedding Planner Mike Robinson had a few words to say about Gunnersbury Park House; “it is a unique and rare occasion that a new, sophisticated venue opens its doors to the world of events and weddings. At Bubble Food, we are unbelievably excited to have been listed at Gunnersbury Park House, the hottest name on the lips of every wedding planner. The team at Gunnersbury Park House are in the process of finalising the venue’s offering, but we couldn’t wait to tell you how spectacular this stylish venue is.”
History
The origins of Gunnersbury Park House stems back to 1633, designed by John Wedd for Sir John Maynard in the newly fashionable Palladian style. Princess Amelia developed the estate between 1761 and 1786, but the original house was demolished in 1800 by a later owner.
The house that currently stands, magnificently in the park was built by Alexander Copland in 1802 and sited to the west of the original house. In 1835, after Copland’s death, the house was bought by Nathan Mayer Rothschild who employed Sydney Smirke as the architect who also, famously, was the architect of the circular Reading Room at the old British Library.
Inside the Venue
This exquisite building still holds many of the original mouldings, pillars, fireplaces and other beautiful design work, as imagined by Smirke. These unique pieces bring a sense of grandeur and splendour to this beautiful, Grade II listed, building. In the Entrance Hall, stands a double height staircase and marble floors with a second marble staircase climbing from the balcony levels.
The Billiard Room holds tall bay windows and marble fireplaces. The corridors are laden with stained-glass skylights which allows a cascade of natural, coloured light to flow through the house while retaining privacy.
Also within the incredible grounds are a chapel, available to use for your wedding and a stunning orangery which is perfect for your wedding breakfast. We can’t wait to see more of the spectacular venue and to unite this magnificent space with the perfect Bubble couples and corporate events.
