We interrupted Laura’s busy schedule as Senior Sales Manager in order to get to know her a little better:
Why did you go into the events industry?
From an early age I was interested in food, at 15 I worked in a butchers/deli that did event catering. On leaving school, I trained as a chef before doing a degree in Hospitality Business Management with Conference and Events.
What’s your most memorable event?
The 2012 London Olympics wrap party for LOCOG, 5500 people at the Copper Box. I organised the event with a 2 week lead time. We transformed the arena into a nightclub and the forecourt into a Brazilian street party. Seeing it all come together on the night is a feeling I won’t forget.
What has influenced your approach to event management?
My degree without a doubt, it gave me a good grounding in the fundamentals. In addition the exposure I have had to the ways in which a number of companies work having worked with a broad number of companies and on a good cross section of events.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Overseeing all of the catering operations for the Olympic Hospitality Centre during the London 2012 Olympics. I was the youngest Operations Manager at the park at the time overseeing up to 900 staff and delivering 63,000 covers of VIP hospitality for 10 top tier sponsors.
What are you looking forward to the most working at Bubble?
Continuing to develop Bubble so that it remains one of the most creative event caterers in the industry.
What do you like to cook at home?
Anything healthy, at home I try to eat quite clean and tend to use Deliciously Ella and Hemsley & Hemsley as inspiration.
Where’s your favourite place to eat?
Nothing beats a good Sunday Roast and there is a great gastro pub where I grew up in Surrey – The Onslow Arm in East Clandon. I always try to visit when I am in the area, the roast beef is fantastic and they do a great homemade hot chocolate sundae that really will send you into a food coma!
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Anything sweet! I have a ridiculous sweet tooth.
